What is Holistic Grooming

Let’s start with the basics shall we. Everyone asks me what Holistic Grooming is or what the Holistic approach is to Grooming?

Could environmental and personal attitude change the impact of a pet’s experience? The answer is yes! If you believe this too then holistic grooming is the way to go!

Holistic Grooming according to Daryl Conner (Author of Holistic Pet Grooming) is “the practice of Grooming your pet in a stress-free environment in order to provide optimal health for both their body and mind”. This quote really does sum up what Holistic Grooming truly is to its core.

Instead of forcing your pet to tolerate the grooming process, holistic Groomers adapt to your pets needs and help them through the process each step of the way. Meaning if your pet really stresses out because of one of the Grooming steps, help them to feel comfortable by having open communication with your Groomer. That way the Groomer and you can help your pet through the transition and hopefully over time they will feel stress free about that step.

As the weeks progress, I am going to thoroughly talk about each step of Grooming and all the alternatives involved for each step. From brushing, to bathing, nails, drying, ear cleaning, teeth cleaning, clipping, scissoring, glands and plucking.

These steps all may sound simple and easy for your pet to do because you have been exposing them since a young age. But truth be told you don’t know what has been going on when you drop your pet off to the Groomer. You don’t have time at home to keep up the stages your pet stresses out from to help them get used to it. You have expectations that your pet should adjust to the Grooming process and come out looking like the dog you saw on Youtube. Simply put your pet could never get used to some of the steps of Grooming because it is in their personality, but we must find an alternative to getting it done.

Come on this journey with me and let’s explore and understand what holistic grooming is and how it is easy to incorporate it with regular at home maintenance. We will go over what you should be looking for in a Groomer to suit your holistic needs and what communication you need to have with them about your pet.
